Welcome to Flavor Friday! This is a brand new show where we have a weekly discussion on all things delicious! Callie Rupp is the flavor guru at Snowie. She has been the key figure behind Snowie’s recent shaved ice flavor / shaved ice syrup innovations. Callie has created the Snowie Natural line, the Fruit First product satisfying Smart Snack regulation on school treats, the Stevia Natural Sweet Thickener, our new Reduced Sugar Simple Syrup, and other products that have not yet come to light. In this video, Callie talks to us about Snowie’s original Sweet Thickener. This product changed the perception and availability of shaved ice to the public as a whole. Sweet Thickener is our product that allows you to artificially sweeten your shaved ice by using Sucralose (Splenda) instead of Sugar. We are often asked, “Why can’t I just use Splenda from the supermarket?” As Callie illustrates, the marvel of this product is that we have been able to replicate the thickness and “mouth-feel” of real sugar. Although most people do not pay attention to how sugar feels in their mouth, it is a big factor to them subconciosuly. Taste is important, of course, but the feel that it creates in your mouth and the texture that it contributes to the shaved ice itself makes a difference. How that product lays on the shaved ice is important also. You will see in this video how the straight water-like Sucralose option gets absorbed into the shaved ice as soon as it is poured, whereas the syrup-like Sweet Thickener sits on top of the shaved ice and is absorbed slowly. This effects the texture of the product as well as the taste. Have you ever poured a soda on snow and feel like you can barely taste the soda in it? The snow will actually overpower the taste of any water-like substance poured into it. It will turn the fluffy snow into a wet, tasteless slush. But when you pour a delicious syrup on your shaved ice, it is the perfect mix. It is that syrup-like texture that allows you to enjoy delicious shaved ice bite after bite. We offer smaller portions of the Sweet Thickener in a pack of twelve “sticks.” Each individual stick will create a pint of syrup-like artificial sweetener. Use two of these sticks to create a quart of syrup. Want to offer Sugar Free on a bigger scale? We have a pack that will make one gallon, and another that will allow you to create a 5 gallon jug. We also address how to mix the Sweet Thickener powder in water without having it clump together. This can result in the powder taking a very long time to fully dissolve. Make sure the water is moving as it comes into contact with the powder. When the bottle is half full, cap it and shake it until the powder is dissolved. Once dissolved, you will simply top off the bottle with water and shake again. This process is similar for every size except when mixing in a 5 gallon jug. Be sure to use one of our mixing options if you are going to mix 5 gallons at a time. We encourage you to give the Snowie Sweet Thickener a try. Tell your customers that you offer a sugar free option and just fill a pint or two to see how it goes with your clientele.
