Ah, Yes! The Snowie Tricycle! This product has been a long time coming. We have always wanted to do a bike for those of you who want to serve shaved ice on the beach or boardwalk, to people along a parade route, while riding through a park on the 4th of July, or the thousand other ways you can use this trike to make some sweet cash. But, staying true to Snowie’s nature, we did not bring you one bike, we brought you two trikes!
As you can tell, there are two different options for our new Snowie Tricycles. The two options do more than offer you two different trikes, they are really two different ways of running your mobile shaved ice business.
The first option that I will describe here is what you may consider to be the more traditional way of doing shaved ice, only on a bike. The freezer is mounted on the back of the tricycle and is meant to hold ice which you will, of course, use in your shaved ice machine. Although you can use any Snowie DC Ice Shaver you like, we highly recommend using the Snowie 1000 DC Ice Shaver for this type of business. Please remember that if you are using a DC Shaver, you will also need to mount a 110Ah Deep Cycle battery in order to run that shaved ice machine properly. The top surface of the cooler is also the counter space on which you will mount your ice shaver and your flavor station.
The picture I have included here shows only the flavors station mounted to the top of the freezer, but as you can see, there is plenty of room to mount an ice shaver as well. I should note here also that the freezer has changed. The cooler shown in this picture is not powered. It is a powerless cooler that is meant to keep your ice cold for the day. The option we have now and will have updated pictures of shortly is the blue bike that you see in the video with the box freezer on the back. We have some cold plate options that can prolong the life of the ice in that freezer, but it is a freezer that you will plug in each night to make sure your ice is nice and cold.
This tricycle also comes with the option to add a motor to the bike. If you look closely at the included photo, you will see a dark hub in the center of the front wheel. This is a powerful motor that can take your shaved ice business anywhere you want to go without having to always peddle to get there.
The second option that I will describe is the white tricycle with the freezer mounted on the front. It has a cold plate freezer that will drop to -40˚ and can maintain your ice or pre-frozen shaved ice for nearly 3 days without any power.
Yes, you read that right, “Pre-Frozen Shaved Ice!” Now why would anyone do that? This was another one of Carl’s ideas and the rest of us thought he was nuts. See, we have always been about fresh shaved ice here at Snowie, so the concept of a pre-shaved and frozen shaved ice was completely foreign to all of us. But then we tried it. We froze around 70 shaved ice and then let them sit in a freezer that was -40˚ until they were extremely frozen. It is important that you put the shaved ice in the freezer while they are nice and dry, before they get wet. If they start to melt and get a bit wet, they will just become an ice shell, and nobody wants that.
To do this properly, we recommend a few things: First, you may use any of Snowie’s shaved ice machines, but we highly recommend the Snowie Block Ice Shaver. Although they are all close in quality, it will give you the finest snow. If you were serving fresh shaved ice, you would temper your block or cubes, but when you are creating pre-shaved ice we recommend that you use the block in its coldest state. We also recommend that you keep your cups cold. If you shave them into a warm cup it will cause your snow to melt on the side and them freeze with a thin shell around your snow. You want to “flash” freeze it as much as possible to make sure this shaved ice is perfect when it is flavored later. If you do not use the Snowie Block Ice Shaver and decide to use one of our Cube Shaved Ice Machines, the Snowie 3000 Cube Ice Shaver, Snowie 1000 Snowie Cube Ice Shaver, or even the Little Snowie 2 Ice Shaver, you will want your ice as cold as you can possibly get it. The cold ice is the key ingredient to amazing shaved ice!
